Rawa Island
Nestled in the South China Sea, this small coral island has clear blue water and white powdery sand with beautiful sunset. As this is a privately owned island, it has an unspoilt beach with two resorts – Rawa Safaris and Le Club. Visitors can be charged even for a day-trip entry.
This island is accessible from Mersing town in Johore Bahru and it takes about 1 hour by slow boat or 30 minutes by speed boat. Avoid travel during the monsoon season between November and early January. When the waves are too high, boat operators will not carry passengers to the island.
Getting to Rawa Island from Singapore:
Make your way to Kranji MRT station. Any of the bus opposite the MRT station will bring you to the immigration checkpoint. You can board bus number 170 that will bring you to Larkin bus interchange in Johor Bahru. Once you have arrived at Larkin bus interchange, look for the bus that goes to Mersing town (read more on Mersing town). The journey from Larkin bus interchange to Mersing town takes about 3.5 to 4 hours. If you have missed the bus to Mersing, you could get a taxi (do not board the red one as it is more expensive than the blue taxi).
Once you have reached Mersing ferry terminal, look for Rawa Safaris Resort office. This resort has its own speed boat to bring you to the island. You could book the tour package from the office.
Take a walk along the wooden trail and enjoy the refreshing sight around you. Leave your stress behind and relax on this beautiful island. You do not need a television set – just sit back and discover what nature has to offer you.
