Mount Kinabalu Public Transport

Was in Kota Kinabalu in September 2009. The public bus to Mt Kinabalu is located at “Long Distant Bus Station” opposite Gaya Street.

The public transport to Mt Kinabalu is actually a mini van with NO AIRCON !

Each person has to pay RM15 for one way. The van will only take off at a certain timing. Passengers comprised of mainly backpackers with huge bags and you have to squeeze with them.

My husband & I finally bargained really hard & got into a taxi to Mt Kinabalu for RM150 (2 person, return trip). If we had taken the pathetic mini van which is like an oven, it would have costed two of us RM 60 for return trip. The difference is your taxi is waiting to pick you back to your hotel. While you have to wait for the mini van to come by to fetch you to town.

The distance to town is about 2 hours ride.
