Thimphu is a small charming city in the heart of Himalayas. The weekend market is held on every Saturdays & Sundays, located close to the river. The field adjacent to the market are reserved on weekends for basket ball and archery players. The market is good place to pick up masks and handicrafts at cheaper prices than the shops. It is also the best place to watch Thimphus residents chatting about the week in a relaxed atmosphere as they do their week’s grocery shopping. You could spend about an hour just walking through the stalls selling fresh vegetables, cloths, handicrafts and many more. Definitely worth a visit.

We had a river front room with a balcony that overlooked Thimphu and surrounding mountains. Staff polite and helpful. Food buffet style with reasonable selection, 20 minutes walk to town due to river crossing over bridge. The noise of barking dogs was very soft, compared to the loud barking noise in the town locations.

This hotel is actually not located in Thimphu, but several hours away in the Phobjikha Valley. Great place with delicious food and all rooms have gorgeous views of the valley. It’s situated near the black necked cranes so you can see them flying around the valley. The rooms were large and the shower was the best we had in Bhutan. Electricity comes on at night and in the morning, very homely and romantic. The nights are chilly even in April, so the staff prepared hot water bottle for us to tug into bed & water stove to warm us up. Really fun experience with great friendly staff !
