Pulau Ubin literally means Granite Island in Malay language. In the 1960s, Granite quarrying supported a few thousand settlers on this island. Today, there are still about one hundred villages living here. Located just 10 minutes bumboat ride from Changi Point Ferry Terminal, visitors can get to this rustic small island situated in the north east of Singapore.

Pulau Ubin is the last rural areas to be found in Singapore that has been preserved from urban development. It has the ambience of the old "Kampong" (refers to village in Malay language) that Singapore was in the 1960s. The main attraction to this island is Chek Jawa wetland and the wildlife paradise. Visitors are able to experience the rich ecosystem during low tide in Chek Jawa .

On 8 July 2007, Chek Jawa was reopened with new & better observation facilities like the coastal boardwalk and Jejawi tower. Rent a bicycle or bring your own to experience the life here. Otherwise, board a van for S$12 (private hire with a driver / one way) to Chek Jawa.

Visitors Guidelines:

  • Pulau Ubin is a wilderness area.

  • Be responsible for your own personal safety.

  • Keep away from granite quarries, ponds and rivers.

  • Avoid feeding, harassing or capturing any wild animals.

  • Consult the National Parks Board if you are planning a group activity. Refrain from setting up any markers, checkpoints or signs without authorization.

Opening Hours of Information Kiosk:

Open daily from 8:30pm to 5:00pm

Opening Hours of Chek Jawa:

Open daily from 8:30pm to 6:00pm

best to go during low tide (Tide Schedule)

Getting there:

Bumboat ride costs S$2.50 per person (a minimum of 12 passengers to depart).

Bicycle extra S$2.00 per piece.

My advise is to go on weekends & public holidays as these are peak periods. Going on a weekday (or non-peak period) means you have to wait for 12 passengers for the bumboat to depart. If you do not want to wait, pay S$24 for the whole bumboat to take you & your group to the island.
