Since 1859, orchids have been closely associated with the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Started in 1928, the gardens' orchid breeding programme was established. The design of the orchids is hand-crafted by the Gardens' horticultural staff.  Over 1000 species and 2000 hybrids are found in the Gardens' collection. National Orchid Garden offers the largest display of orchids in the world.

National Orchid Garden consists of several interesting areas. There is also a recommended wheel chair route (map is available at the ticket counter and information counters in Singapore Botanic Gardens).
