In 1822, "Botanical and Experimental Garden" was established by Sir Stamford Raffles at Fort Canning Hill. This garden closed in 1829 & after 30 years, an agri-horticultural society founded and established the present Singapore Botanic Gardens. Later, it was handed over to the National parks Board for maintenance.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens has come a long way since 1859. Back then, it was an experimental station and a pleasure park for family recreation. Now it has evolved into a fine tropical botanic garden and an important centre for research.

If you are arriving at the main gate of Singapore Botanic Gardens, you will be welcomed by the huge beautiful flora gate painted in grey tone. Picnic & reading areas are located all over the gardens. Come with your picnic basket on a lovely sunny day. But remember to throw your litters into the rubbish bin before you move on.  If you do not have time to prepare for a picnic, there are many food & beverages outlets available in the gardens.

Everything in the gardens are for viewing pleasure. Do not attempt to pluck or bring home any of the flora or items from the gardens. A big pond is located near the entrance with several smaller ponds around the gardens.

Many attractive blooms can seen in the gardens. Take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful attractions while you relax among the greeneries.
